About Mental Health Disorders
A wide range of mental health disorders can arise during childhood and adolescence, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Anxiety and depression rates in children and adolescents are rising and we know how difficult it can be to access mental health professionals. The doctors at East Bay Pediatrics care about your child’s mental health and are committed to meeting your child’s needs in this area.
Diagnosis
At East Bay Pediatrics our doctors are trained to monitor for signs of anxiety and depression in young people. We use standardized, evidence-based tools to screen for depression at all adolescent check ups. Standardized questionnaires that screen for anxiety can be used when indicated. If further evaluation is indicated, referrals may be made to a psychologist, psychiatrist or neuropsychologist.
TREATMENT
Management of anxiety or depression may include therapy and/or medication. When needed, our doctors can treat anxiety or depression with medication or we can refer your child to a mental health professional. The treatment protocol will be tailored to the needs of the child and may include regular visits in the office, telehealth visits, and consultations with the parents with and without the child being present, depending on their age.
As an Independent Practice with over 45 years of service in the East Bay, our doctors have established relationships with a wide range of mental health professionals. We can refer your child to trusted, local pediatric therapists, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists and developmental specialists when needed. We are not bound to one health care system, so we can help you find the mental health professional that meets your individual child’s needs.
