Our Specialities

The following is a list of some of the procedures which can be performed at East Bay Pediatrics. Always call the advice nurses before coming to the office for one of these procedures, so that we can ensure that we will be able to provide appropriate and safe care to your child in a prompt manner. Office procedures usually incur additional charges, most of which are covered by insurance. Please consult your plan to determine coverage for procedures.

Routine Procedures
Sports Physicals
Advice Nurses
Injury Care
ADHD Management
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Ear Piercing

Routine Procedures
We perform several routine procedures in our office, like treating warts, draining abscesses, performing ear washes for excessive ear wax and cauterizing blood vessels to stop nose bleeds. We also perform newborn circumcisions, if they are not done immediately following birth in the hospital.

Sports Physicals
From the age of 3 years old onward, we encourage annual physical examinations for our patients. Sports involvement helps boys and girls keep their bodies fit, feel good about themselves, and develop teamwork skills that are important life lessons. Many sports teams require a recent examination to provide clearance to ensure that the athlete is capable of performing at a competitive level and has no underlying problems that might pose a risk.

We are happy to complete these sports forms as long as your child has had a comprehensive physical examination in the preceding 12 months. Please be aware of the timing of these visits. Most can be performed at the time of the annual visit and if necessary the forms can be filled out at a later date when available. We feel that it is a potential risk to your child to rely on information from an outdated examination.

Advice Nurses
We are proud to offer a unique and valuable phone-in advice line for our patients and families. This real time medical advice line provides our patients and families with prompt service by registered nurses with a wealth of pediatric medical knowledge and expertise. Our nurses provide advice, pediatric medical support and help facilitate communication between patients and physicians.

Our nurse advice line (925) 254-9203 & choose option 6 is available during office hours, Monday thru Friday, 9:00am-12:30pm and again from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Our nurse advice line is closed for lunch from 12:30pm-2:00 pm.

Injury Care
Avoid the long lines and stress of the Emergency Room! The physicians at East Bay Pediatrics provide care for a wide range of injuries in our office. We repair lacerations, splint sprained or broken fingers, apply casts for some wrist fractures and remove foreign bodies (like splinters or a bead in the nose or ear).  We also diagnose and treat corneal abrasions  and treat subungual hematomas (blood beneath a nail due to trauma).

Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of related brain- based disorders that affect a child’s behavior, communication and social skills. Autism is a spectrum disorder – symptoms and characteristics of autism can present in a wide range of combinations with different degrees of severity.

Better recognition has increased the incidence of this disorder, and data indicates that the best prognosis for treatment is early and intensive intervention. Signs of autism may appear at about 15 months of age; consequently, we perform screening using the MCHAT tool with parent questionnaires at both the 18 and 24 month examinations. We will discuss the results with you at the end of the visit.

Although the causes of ASD appear to be multifactorial, both genetic and environmental factors have been implicated. Once this problem is suspected, we have excellent diagnostic and therapeutic resources in the East Bay to provide intervention for our patients and their family. Your pediatrician can provide further educational material on this topic.

Ear Piercing
Did you know that we pierce ears? Several of the physicians at East Bay Pediatrics perform ear piercings to children 2 months and above, in a safe, hygienic manner. We provide gold-post stud earrings, and can do the procedure in an unhurried, calming manner. Reviewing the procedure and care for pierced ears with our patients ensures a low risk for infection. We enjoy providing this "milestone" experience for our patients!
Note: This procedure is not covered by insurance and requires payment at the time of service.
