ABC News reports on its website that this week is the beginning of the World Health Organization’s World Immunization Week, which it said aims “to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.” Despite a 2015 report by the CDC which found that at least 90 percent of children receive recommended vaccinations, vaccination rates have dropped below target levels for “herd immunity,” which refers to “a population’s resistance to the spread of a disease that results when a high percentage of individuals are immune.” The piece also references the American Academy of Pediatrics, which has collected data on vaccination rates for mumps, measles, and pertussis.
