Governor Brown has signed AB 53 which requires infants and toddlers to remain rear-facing in car seats in compliance with American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations. Children should not turn forward facing until they meet at least one of these criteria: 2 years of age, 40 pounds OR 40 inches (whichever comes first). Pediatricians have already been teaching families to keep children rear-facing longer; starting January 1, 2017 it will be law.
