There are 2 documented cases of measles in Contra Costa County and now 2 cases in Berkeley, all in the last month. Measles is a highly contagious illnesses characterized by fever and rash at the same time. Both infection control and testing are important so please let us know if your child has these symptoms. Of course, good hand washing and covering coughs are always the best ways to decrease the spread of any illness.
Those who are not immunized are at risk of both getting the disease and spreading it. Most children receive the Measles vaccine in the MMR at the 1 year and 4 year old visits. If you think that your child is behind on the MMR vaccine, please call our office at (925) 254-9203 & choose option 6 to speak to our nurses.
