There has been much in the news lately about Enterovirus 68, a virus which causes a respiratory illness, especially in those who already have a diagnosis of asthma or wheezing. If a child has a wheezing illness, he or she should be treated in the same way we treat any other respiratory illness. If the child is still having respiratory distress (difficulty breathing or unusually fast breathing, wheezing not responding to typical medications, or new onset wheezing) the child should be seen by a physician. For more information about Enterovirus 68, see our Health Questions page.
