August is breastfeeding awareness month and the first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week!

8/2/2022

This year's theme for World Breastfeeding Week is Step Up for Breastfeeding-Educate and Support. It is my pleasure to work here at East Bay Pediatrics educating and supporting families on their breastfeeding/chestfeeding journeys. Each family has their own unique goals and challenges. I believe in meeting the family's needs specifically for their personal situation. I value each family I see and believe kindness and compassion is a huge part of effective true healthcare. It is my honor to work with each infant and see them grow and thrive through the love of their family unit.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding/chestfeeding and human milk as the normal expectations for feeding and nutrition, supporting families in exclusive breastfeeding/chestfeeding for 6 months and continuing through 2 years and beyond as mutually desired by mom and baby/toddler. The benefits of breastfeeding/chestfeeding and providing any human milk last a lifetime for that infant. My role as the lactation consultant is to meet families in their specific needs and provide evidenced based research, education and support for any feeding plan while keeping the families’ wellness in mind with each assistance in decision making. I am proud of each one of the families I see no matter their feeding plan. The best gift is seeing the healthy happy babies as they grow! Feel free to send me a portal message or call with any questions or concerns. I am here to help and support you and your little ones!

Michaela Anthony, RN, IBCLC
