You may have heard that the American Academy of Pediatrics put out a statement recommending that teens start school later. This topic has been a discussion for years in academic pediatrics. Adolescence is an important time for both physical and cognitive development in children. During this time of change, the sleep cycle gravitates toward a later bedtime and later waking hour. Changing the start time for school may be the most flexible of possible changes to support adolescent sleep health.
